Frequently Asked Questions

1. Will I die?
I don't think so. I have designed the game so that there's not really any advantage to reckless bike behavior.

2. Is it your fault if I do die?
No way dude! I would be sad, but you will be playing at your own risk. I'm not rich and I barely have insurance for my own self. It's 100% totally not my fault if anything happens to you. Again, I've made efforts to keep the game distributed and safe.

3. So I'm playing at my own risk?
Yep!

4. How can I make sure I'm very safe?
Glad you asked! I recommend that you wear a helmet, obey traffic laws including stoplights and one-way traffic, and use hand signals. Also, use common sense and don't get all agro if a conflict arises.

5. Have you ever run this game before?
Yep! I ran the first ever playtest on April 22, 2007 - Earth Day. ^_^ I then made the game a little different and ran it on May 27, 2007 in honor of Memorial Day Weekend. Those first 2 versions of the game were totally different than the October 13, 2007 game which is roughly how I intend to keep BFC working in the future.

6. Don't I know you?
Probably. It's a small world.

7. What should I wear
Something comfortable. And a helmet if you have one.

8. Should I bring along my NYC Cycling Map?
Well, you don’t NEED it. But it will help to have one, or at least a working knowledge of Bike Lanes that are already making our city more bike friendly.

9. Is there anything else that I should bring?
At least one team should have a camera phone or digital camera. I'd love for all of you to take as many photos of the game as possible for me too, since I don't ever get to play it or see it myself!! Also good things you might want to have on hand: water, pump and flat-repair kit, pen or pencil, paper. if you've got them.

10. What if someone asks me what I'm doing while I'm playing the game?
Assure them that the chalk will come off in the rain and let them know that you are playing a little game. “Something kind of like a scavenger hunt” usually eases strangers’ minds and is a lot easier than explaining the whole game. Please don’t tell them to come find me....!

11. I signed up for the announcement list but haven't heard from you. What gives?
I try to use the announcement list sparingly. But, you also might have forgotten to click on the confirmation link in the email that was sent to you when you joined the list. BFC is totally awesome, but I'm not going to assume that you want to hear about it. If you DO want to hear about it, be sure to click on that confirmation link.

12. Is there anyone you'd like to thank?
Yes! Special thanks to Mike, Evan, James, Greg, Izzy, Lenny, Josh, Renate, Nari, Sam, Sayaka, Michael, Jason, Soraya, Ben, Emily, Jenifer, and Nick.
